![]() ![]() Welcome to Northampton Shooting Ground, Sywell Range, Northampton. Located in the heart of rural East Midlands situated off the main A43, midway between Northampton and Kettering, the shooting ground is just 15 minutes from the M1 (Junctions 15, 15a or 16) and 10 minutes from the A14 (Junction 8) Extending over 70 acres of pleasant Northamptonshire countryside, there is convenient access to all facilities and an excellent choice and variety of shooting, with four Skeet layouts, two Automatic Ball Trap layouts, and six Down the Line layouts. In addition, we offer Sportrap, Olympic Skeet and ‘black powder’ shooting. The 12-stand Sporting layout features a wide variety of interesting and challenging targets, with 3 High Towers, the tallest being 40 metres. The entire facility features top of the range automatic traps and acoustic releases which ensure that targets are both accurate and consistent. There is no limitation on plastic wads. All ranges are CPSA certificated. The ground is open for practice and competition every weekend from 10am and on Thursday evenings during the summer months, from 6pm to dusk. (See Fixtures) Introductions to shooting and private tuition are available from resident CPSA coaches Dave Whitehead and Geoff Bryant, by prior appointment or ‘pot luck’ on the day. An excellent venue for corporate events and private parties. Ben Muttock and his wife, Nanette took over the running of the club in 1976. Their vision was to expand the club, and to invest in new facilities for both members and visiting shooters from around the country.
Today, Northampton Shooting Ground is still a family run concern, retaining the original values of a welcoming, friendly atmosphere, together with professional and efficient organisation and excellent facilities.
The facilities are open throughout the year to both Club members and to non-members. For a small annual membership fee, club members benefit from savings on their shoot entry fees and they are also eligible to shoot for annual awards and club trophies. Members also participate in friendly inter-club shooting and social events with other clubs in the area. In addition to shooting at club level, Northampton Shooting Ground, as a CPSA Premier Ground, holds Championship shoots at County, Regional, National and International levels and over the years has hosted a number of prestigious events. With the exception of CPSA championships, the majority of events can be shot as either competition (eligible for prize money) or simply as practice (Birds only). From mid April to early September the shooting ground is also open during the week on Thursday evenings from 6pm to dusk. Facilities are open to members and non-members for practice Skeet, Sporting, DTL and ABT.
